We believe that a creative and supportive Internship Program
is essential in the development of professionals in the field
of Recreation and Parks. We feel that we can provide and
excellent testing round for theories and practices from your
studies, as well as providing a place to formulate and strengthen
basic philosophies. The Carol Stream Park District Staff
and Park Board believe that an intensive on-the-job experience
is advantageous to the student, the Park District and the
University/College.
Internships are full-time positions. Their duration is usually
14-16 weeks depending on your college requirements.
Internship options are assigned based on your strengths,
growth, and interest areas. Options include: cultural arts,
facilities, marketing, recreation administration, special
events, and sports. Other options may be available if you
have a specific interest area. During your experience, you
will lead at least one project from start to finish. In addition,
district staff is available to help you with resume and cover
letter preparation, interviewing techniques, and your job
search.
As an intern you will have office space in one of our facilities
and access to all its office equipment and supplies. Staff
shirts and a name tag are also provided to wear to district
programs.
Spend a semester with us to explore new areas, gain experience,
network with professionals, and build your resume. Our certified
and professional staff will help you understand the daily
operations of a park district while developing your skills
and knowledge to prepare you for a career in parks and recreation.
During your learning experience, you will receive a $150
per week stipend.

Please include a cover letter, resume and references. Selection
will be through the interview process. If selected, you will
be contacted to set up an interview. At the interview you
will be asked to discuss past experiences, future goals,
areas of interest, and your desired outcomes from the internship.
At the time of selection the intern will be requested to
develop goals for the internship. These will be utilized
to determine your specific needs, and to design a program
in subject areas you wish to enhance.
Internship Applications are reviewed three times per year.
Deadlines for each season is:
- July 1st - For a Fall Internship
- November 1st - For a Spring Internship
- March 1st - For a Summer Internship
