Sammy Starfish Swim School
Welcome to the Carol Stream Park District’s Sammy Starfish Swim School. Sammy Starfish Swim School is based on learning the fundamentals of swimming while having a fun experience. If this is your child’s first day at Sammy Starfish Swim School, they will be tested and placed in the appropriate level. If your child does not perform at their best during the testing period but demonstrates a greater ability at a later time, we will not hesitate to move him/her to the next level. Your child will be given a designated area in which to meet their class. We ask that all children arrive on time and ready to swim.

What to Expect:
The goal of the first day of swim lessons is to introduce your child to their instructor and for the instructor to begin introducing your child to the water and swim lesson process. A few minutes prior to the start of the lesson feel free to bring your child onto the deck. The instructors will call out the names of all the children that have previously taken lessons with our Park District and those children may begin their lesson. The remaining children will then be “skill tested” through a series of exercises to determine their ability level in the water. As the child’s’ experience level is determined, they will be placed into the class that best fits their needs and allows them to develop their aquatic skills.

Note: After the second lesson, if you feel your child has been placed into the incorrect class, please notify the head swim instructor of your concerns and they will do their best to reevaluate the child.

Watching your Child During Swim Lessons:

You may watch your child progress on our swim lesson deck. We ask that you sit in the pool chairs provided at deck side. We ask that you do not disturb the class. If your class is distracted while you are near the class we will ask that you sit further away to your child can learn to swim.
