Dog Park – August 2011 Update

Construction has now started on the dog park. The scheduled date for completion is September 9. On Monday, Aug 8, the Carol Stream Board of Commisoners voted to name the new dog park, Bark Park Carol Stream. Carol Stream Park District residents were asked to suggest names for the dog park, and vote on a shortlist of names. Bark Park was voted as the most popular name.

Information on Bark Park passes will be available at the CSbarks dog festival on Sep 18 at Armstrong Park and at 50.116.99.191/~simkus1/barkpark

Bids are now being accepted from contractors to construct the dog park. The bid will be awarded on July 11, with work expected to begin on July 15. Updated concept plans for the dog park, which include turf, fencing, water, shade, and an off-leash dog exercise/running area, are now available to view above. Due to the very low rainfall levels in the fall, grass seeding has been delayed and the full April – June growing season will likely be needed to grow the required grass ground cover.

Dog Park – January 2011 Update

In December bids for the dog park construction were reviewed by the Park District board. Webster, McGrath & Ahlberg Ltd were chosen to do the Civil Engineering. Work is now underway on final blueprints for the park.

Dog Park – October 2010 Update

Parks staff have now seeded the dog park area twice and are continuing to mow it regularly to encourage grass growth and kill off weeds. Our landscape architect is currently refining the preliminary plan to address ideas and suggestions that where generated in our public meeting in August.

Dog Park – August 2010 Update

Rec staff continues to gather information from other dog parks. We met with interested dog owners on August 5 to collect their thoughts on features and how the park will operate. Our engineering firm is now working on the land surveys we need to start designing the park. We’ve done some clearing and seeding. The site for this park is a 20 acre parcel just northwest of Kuhn and North Ave. (just south of our new maintenance garage).

Dog Park – July 2010 Update

A site has been secured for the dog park. It is a 20 acre parcel just south of our Maintenance Garage on Kuhn Rd. We were granted a no-cost 5-year lease to use the land from IDOT. We are meeting with several agencies who already operate dog parks to learn more about good design and operations. We are still in the planning phase for this project and will soon be contacting interested dog owners for design focus groups.
