Sparrows may seem to be the most common bird in Carol Stream, but there are in fact dozens of sub-species that are notoriously difficult to identify, which is why birding enthusiasts often refer to them as a SBB (small brown bird). This House Sparrow was spotted searching for food in the Volunteer Park playground. House sparrows have black-streaked brown upperparts and pale gray underparts. Wings are brown with single white bar.
