Want to attract some birds to your garden? Here’s a simple bird feeder project that will help bring some feathered friends to your garden and makes use of leftover food.

Here’s what you’ll need: an orange or large mandarin, string or garden twine, a wooden skewer, peanut butter and seeds, nuts, raisins, or breadcrumbs.

In a bowl mix together any seeds, stale breadcrumbs, fruit, or left over trail mix you have, with a couple of tablespoons of peanut butter. Next cut the orange in half and scoop out the pulp. Spoon in your seed mixture. Finally, push the skewer through the center of the orange and tie the string on each end to create the hanger.

If you don’t have any citrus, try some alternative containers. Clean yogurt pots and small seed-starter plant pots work well too. Try using two skewers in a cross shape for extra stability.
