Aldrin Community Center

Aldrin Community Center is located in Armstrong Park. The Center was named after Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin, who was a member of the Apollo XI  mission with Neil Armstrong and Michael Collins.

The center closed on December 16, 2011 and will be demolished in early 2012 as part of DuPage County’s stormwater management plan in Armstrong Park. A ‘thanks for the memories’ farewell event for Aldrin Community Center and Collins Pool will be held in January 2012.

Building of the Aldrin Community Center began in 1969 with a pricetag of $248,00, and opened in Spring 1970. The center served as the park district’s main facility until the opening of the Simkus Recreation Center.
