Elk Trial Recreation Center opened in the winter of 2007. It houses the park district fall-spring  preschool program and summer preschool program. During the summer in the evenings, it is also used for various general programming.

The facility includes five classrooms. Each classroom exits out to a playground with a variety of playground equipment. The site overlooks Mitchell Lakes.

Observation of Preschool program is by appointment only
