Fall Overnight Trip – Mount Rushmore, the Badlands & Black Hills of South Dakota

Oct 5-11, 2025

Day 1
Board your spacious, video and restroom-equipped motorcoach and begin your journey to the legendary Black Hills of South Dakota. Settle in tonight at an en route hotel for a restful evening.

Day 2
After a Continental Breakfast, explore the stunning landscapes of Badlands National Park. Then, stop at the iconic Wall Drug Store before enjoying dinner and checking into your South Dakota hotel.

Day 3
Begin the day with a visit to the Borglum Historical Center to learn about Mount Rushmore’s sculptor, followed by a visit to the Mount Rushmore National Memorial. Later, take a scenic drive through Custer State Park’s Wildlife Loop Road, known for its natural beauty and wildlife sightings. Enjoy dinner and evening entertainment.

Day 4
Today’s highlights include the High Plains Western Heritage Center and a trip to historic Deadwood, home to Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane. Take a guided tour of Deadwood, try your luck at the gaming establishments, and end the day with dinner.

Day 5
After breakfast, visit the Journey Museum to discover the rich history of the Black Hills. Then, experience the awe-inspiring Crazy Horse Memorial, the world’s largest mountain carving in progress, and learn about the artist and his family’s ongoing mission. Cap off the day with dinner and entertainment.

Day 6
Enjoy breakfast before visiting the famously unique Corn Palace. In the evening, relax at your en route hotel.

Day 7
After breakfast, begin your journey home—plenty of time to reflect on your adventure, share stories, and dream about your next group getaway.

Guidelines

Accessibility

Carol Stream Park District strives to provide trips and activities for everyone. Most adult trips are accessible; however, participants using walkers or wheelchairs should confirm the trip location’s accessibility in advance. Indicate any accommodation requests when registering.

Front bus seating may be reserved at the time of registration for those with applicable medical special needs. Participants requesting front of bus seating should arrive fifteen minutes before departure time.

 

Participant Photo

Next time you are visiting Simkus or Fountain View, allow time for your photo to be taken at the registration desk for safety purposes. If you register online or by mail, just stop by the registration desk when you arrive for your next trip or event. Those who have a fitness or pool membership do not need to have their account updated with a new photo.

Payments Policy

Registrants are required to either pay in full or enroll in a payment plan and complete an Automatic Payment Request form at the time of registration. If enrolling in a payment plan, payments for trips will be withdrawn from the account listed on the Automatic Payment Request form on the payment due date listed for each trip. If a due date has passed, you may still enroll in the trip if space is available – payment is due at registration. Enroll in the waitlist for a trip any time at no fee.

Trip Cancellations Policy

Withdrawals should be requested prior to the payment deadline. If you can no longer attend after the deadline, withdrawals are only processed if a participant on the waitlist takes your spot or if you find a replacement. There is no guarantee that a waitlist replacement will be found after the due date has passed. If a friend is taking your place on the trip, a signed waiver and payment are due before your withdrawal can be processed. Passengers not on our roster are not permitted to attend. Refer to our Refund and Withdrawal Policy.
