Garden Plots

2023 Registration Open

Priority (early) Registration, for returning gardeners in good standing, January 1

Open Registration for residents, and non-residents, February 1

Slepicka Homestead Park has sixteen (16) ground-level plots and six (6) raised garden beds available to rent. Plots are available for use from April 15 to October 15, Slepicka Park is located at 1301 Lily Lane in Carol Stream.

Garden Plots Usage Guidelines

Garden Maintenance

  • Gardeners are responsible for planting in their own plots.
  • Gardeners may share their plot. The individual who rented the plot is responsible for plot maintenance.
  • Gardeners are expected to weed their garden and keep it neat.
  • The Carol Stream Park District is not responsible for theft, damage, vandalism, or any other acts of destruction, loss, or irresponsibility.  Report any damage or loss to the Carol Stream Park District at 630-784-6100.

Lack of Maintenance

If weeds grow 12 or more inches tall, the Carol Stream Park District has the right to mow the entire plot. In such cases, the gardener is contacted by phone. The gardener has one week to comply before the entire plot is mowed. If the Carol Stream Park District has to take over the plot due to lack of maintenance, no refund is issued and the gardener can not have priority registration for the following year. 

Landscape Waste

Landscape waste can be disposed of in trash barrels labeled for landscape waste.

Location

  • Garden plots are identified by signs. 
  • Boundary lines are marked by corner posts or flags 
  • Corner stakes and number stakes must not be removed.

Parking

Parking in designated parking stalls and not in the roadway.

Plot Boundaries

  • Maintain plot to its boundaries.
  • When selecting planting materials and planting location, ensure that the plants can not encroach on paths or into neighboring gardens.
  • Gardeners are responsible for the costs associated with planting in the wrong area.
  • Be considerate of stepping on other gardener’s plot areas when planting your garden plot.
  • Do not to disturb other gardener’s plot plantings.
  • All materials must be kept off paths, including plastic bags, rocks, strings, wood stakes, or other materials.

Registration

Plots are available for use from April 15 to October 15, depending on weather and ground conditions.

One (1) plot per household. If garden plots are still available after April 15, renters are allowed a maximum of two (2) plot rentals per household.

 

 

Watering

  • Water is available at the park site.
  • At the time of rental payment, renters are given access to the water box for the current rental season.
  • Hoses are not allowed. You must transport your water using other means.
